No matter whether you have written one chapter or a whole book, proper publication gives your work a lasting, citable home. JW Book (jwbook.org) is the book-publishing platform in the JW publishing network, which also includes JMVRA. It looks after ISBN allotment, optional Crossref DOI registration, editing support, cover design, typesetting, printing and online distribution, while you hold on to your copyright and royalty. Knowing which route suits your manuscript before you start makes the whole process smoother.
This page walks through the steps. If you want the platform overview — all services, the Anvi-AI book creator, marketing support and the complete plan comparison — go to the JW Book platform page.

How to Publish a Book Chapter in an Edited Volume
An edited volume brings together chapters by different authors on a single theme, coordinated by one or more volume editors. It is a good way to publish a focused piece — a topic review, a case study, a method or new findings — next to other experts.
- Choose an open volume. Select a title whose theme matches your expertise, and ask the editorial office which volumes are still accepting chapters.
- Send a brief proposal. A title, authors, affiliations and a 200–300 word abstract let the editor judge the fit before you start writing.
- Follow the chapter guidelines. Each volume sets its own rules on length, template, reference style and figures — keep to them precisely.
- Verify originality. Run a similarity check and reword any passages lifted from your thesis or previous papers.
- Submit the complete chapter. Send the chapter along with the signed copyright form to the editorial office.
- Revise following editorial review. The volume editor assesses the chapter; reply to every comment made.
- Sign off on the proof. Inspect the typeset chapter for mistakes in names, affiliations, figures and references.
- Publication. The volume appears with its ISBN; chapter-level DOIs are registered when the volume provides them.
How to Publish Your Own Book, Step by Step
- Submit your manuscript. Send Word, PDF or Google Docs files — or begin from an outline with the Anvi-AI platform.
- Editorial review. The team assesses structure, flow and completeness, normally in 24–48 hours.
- Pick a plan and pay. Choose from Basic, Affordable, Standard or Premium, paying by UPI, card or net banking and receiving a GST invoice.
- Editing, design and formatting. The cover is designed, the interior is laid out ready for print, and the ISBN is finalised.
- Examine your proof. You read through the fully formatted proof; corrections are part of the service, and publication waits for your sign-off.
- DOI registration (optional). If your plan covers it, a Crossref DOI is registered for the book.
- Publish and distribute. The book goes live on the platforms covered by your plan, and you receive the ISBN (and DOI) details.

ISBN, DOI and Copyright: What You Need to Know
| ISBN | Crossref DOI | Copyright | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | The international identifier of the book | A lasting, citable link to the book or chapter | Your legal ownership of the work |
| Who issues it | In India, assigned by the national ISBN agency named for Raja Rammohun Roy (isbn.gov.in) | Registered by the publisher through Crossref | Remains with the author at JW Book |
| Needed for | Sales, cataloguing and library listing | Academic citation and discovery | Royalties, reprints and translations |
| At JW Book | Free on every plan | Included from Affordable; a ₹500 add-on on Basic | 100% author-owned |
Every edition and format — paperback, hardcover, eBook — ordinarily has its own ISBN. Fiction and general books generally need an ISBN alone; academic, research and thesis-based books gain from having a DOI too. Asking the publisher which identifiers each format will receive avoids confusion at listing time.
Self-Publishing vs Traditional Publishing
| Factor | Traditional publisher | JW Book self-publishing |
|---|---|---|
| Time to publish | Months to years | Generally 7–25 working days |
| Acceptance | Selective; many manuscripts are turned down | Every manuscript gets an editorial review |
| Royalty | Typically a small percentage of net sales | 100% to the author |
| Copyright | Frequently transferred to the publisher | Kept by the author |
| Creative control | Publisher decides | Author decides |
| Upfront cost | Usually none | Plan fee starting at ₹2,500 + GST |

UGC CARE, UGC’s New Recommendations and Books
Only journals were ever listed by UGC-CARE, never books, and UGC has now stopped CARE listing entirely. Its new recommendation points — 35 suggestive parameters in 8 groups — are also aimed at journals. As a result, no book or book chapter can be described as “UGC CARE approved”, and a claim like that should be viewed warily. Asking for the evidence behind a claim is a sensible first step.
- What can be verified for a book is the ISBN, the identity of the publisher, any editorial or peer review, and a DOI where one is registered.
- With a journal, look for a statement that it is aligned with UGC’s suggested parameters, supported by evidence for each parameter.
- For academic credit, what counts is decided by your institution’s current rule.
Our guide to claims about UGC CARE in 2026 and the new UGC recommendation points sets out each point and shows how such claims should be worded correctly.

How To… Quick Answers
How should I decide between a book chapter and a book of my own?
A chapter fits when you have a single focused contribution on a volume’s theme; a book of your own fits when you have enough material for a full, coherent work such as a textbook, monograph or thesis-based book.
How can I turn my thesis into a book?
Take out the literature-review and methods repetition that examiners required, rebuild the chapters around questions that readers care about, bring the references up to date and write a fresh introduction for a wider audience. Reading the draft as an outsider, not as your examiner, helps you judge what to cut.
How can I obtain an ISBN for my book?
If you publish through JW Book, the ISBN is taken care of and comes at no cost. Authors who self-publish independently in India can apply through isbn.gov.in.
How can I add a DOI to my book?
Select a plan with the Crossref DOI built in (Affordable and above), or buy it as an extra on Basic for ₹500; registration happens at the time of publication.
How should I format my manuscript?
Keep to one font and heading style, number chapters, figures and tables consistently, give references in a single style, and submit Word, PDF or Google Docs files.
How can I get printed copies?
The Standard and Premium plans come with 5 hard copies, whereas print-on-demand copies on Basic and Affordable cost extra. Ordering a proof copy before a large run helps you check print quality.

- Write an introduction and conclusion — covering the book as a whole
Preparing Your Book or Chapter Manuscript for Publication
Whether you contribute a chapter or write a whole book, careful preparation saves time with any publisher. These suggestions focus on the manuscript and your rights as an author.
- Read the agreement carefully. Before signing, understand who holds copyright, what rights you keep and how royalties or reuse are handled. Ask questions in writing if any clause is unclear.
- Keep chapters consistent. Follow one referencing style, one spelling convention and one heading structure throughout. Consistency reduces editing delays and gives the book a professional finish.
- Secure permissions for borrowed material. Obtain written permission for figures, tables or long quotations you did not create. Keep the correspondence, as publishers may ask to see it.
- Proofread beyond spellcheck. Read the text aloud or ask a colleague to review it. Software misses wrong words, broken cross-references and inconsistent terminology that readers notice immediately.
Understand your agreement, clear permissions and polish the manuscript thoroughly before it reaches production.
