Why a 2027 Scopus Search Should Start With the Subject, Not the Ranking
Most people hunting for a Scopus journals list 2027 scroll a global CiteScore ranking, see medical review journals at the top, and learn nothing useful for their own manuscript. A chemist cannot submit to The Lancet; an economist gains nothing from knowing Chemical Reviews' score. The productive question for 2027 planning is narrower: which Scopus journals lead my subject area, and what does performance look like in my field?
Scopus classifies every indexed journal into subject areas and ranks it by CiteScore percentile within each one. That is why this page takes a different slice than our companion 2026 page (which lists the global top 25 by CiteScore): here you get the top title in each of 30 subject areas, drawn from our site's compilation of 1,000 Q1 Scopus titles, plus distribution charts showing which publishers and which subjects dominate that elite band. Use it to calibrate what "the top of my field" looks like before you build a realistic 2027 shortlist a few tiers below it.
Top Scopus Journal in Each Subject Area (2027 Planning Table)
Each row below is the leading Q1 title of one Scopus subject area in our 1,000-journal compilation, with its CiteScore, SJR, SNIP, percentile position and publisher. These journals appear as third-party reference data — benchmarks for their fields, not venues we represent or recommend by default. One row's subject field is blank in the source data (Nature, a multidisciplinary title) and is shown with a dash.

Read the "rank" column carefully: it tells you how deep each field is. Electrical and Electronic Engineering has 1,030 ranked journals and Computer Science Applications 1,022, while Nephrology has 88. A Q1 position in a 1,000-journal field means beating roughly 770 titles; in an 88-journal field, 66. Field depth is exactly the context a bare CiteScore hides — and a strong argument for shortlisting within your subject area rather than from a global ranking.
Who Publishes the Top Scopus Journals: Publisher Distribution
Across the full 1,000-title Q1 compilation, ten publishers account for the bulk of the list. The chart shows how many of the 1,000 titles each one publishes:
What this means for 2027 planning: nearly half of the elite band comes from just two houses, Elsevier (324 titles) and Springer Nature (167). Practically, that lets you browse a single publisher's subject portal and still cover a large share of credible Q1 options in your field. It also explains a common scam pattern — fake journals borrowing the visual identity of these big publishers. The defence is unchanged: verify the ISSN on scopus.com/sources, and confirm the publisher named on the source page matches the website in front of you. Note that strong society publishers (ACS, APS, ACM, CDC in the table above) hold the number-one slot in several fields despite publishing far fewer titles.
Where the Top 1,000 Concentrate: Subject Distribution
The same 1,000-title compilation, cut by subject area, shows which fields contribute the most journals to the elite band:
Two takeaways surprise most readers. First, Education tops the distribution with 24 titles — the elite Scopus band is not a medicine-only club, and social-science authors have more top-tier room than folklore suggests. Second, no single subject exceeds 24 of 1,000 titles: the elite band is spread thin across hundreds of subject areas, which means whatever your field, your realistic 2027 options extend well beyond the one famous journal everyone names. The full compilation is browsable on our Scopus indexed journals and Scopus journals list pages.
What Changes Going Into 2027 — and What Does Not
Facts on this page are as of late 2026; here is what is expected to move during 2027 and what will stay stable. Expected to move: CiteScore values and quartiles (recalculated annually, with a monthly tracker in between), the membership of the source list itself (titles added after CSAB approval, titles discontinued after re-evaluation), and institutional policies — in India, evaluation now runs on UGC's Suggested Parameters since the UGC-CARE list was discontinued in February 2025, and institutions are still settling how they apply them. Check the official source closer to your submission date.
What will not change: the verification method (ISSN search on scopus.com/sources), the two-year publication-history minimum before a journal can be evaluated, the CSAB's role as the only gatekeeper, and the economics that make "guaranteed Scopus publication" offers fraudulent. Build your 2027 plan on the stable parts and re-check the moving parts at decision time.
Plan on the method, not the snapshot: lists age in months, but ISSN-level verification on scopus.com/sources works every year.
Building Your 2027 Target Shortlist by Subject
With the benchmarks above in view, here is a disciplined way to convert a subject area into a submission shortlist for 2027:
- Fix the subject areapick the Scopus subject category that genuinely matches your manuscript
- Pull the ranked liston scopus.com/sources, filter by that subject and sort by CiteScore
- Cut to your tiershortlist 5–8 journals around the quartile your work can realistically clear
- Screen each onescope match, recent similar papers, review model, fees, timelines
- Order the attemptsone ambitious target, two realistic, one safe — never parallel submissions
Do
- Match your paper against 3–5 recent articles in each shortlisted journal.
- Record ISSN, coverage years and quartile for each candidate in a tracker sheet.
- Check the journal's stated review timeline against your 2027 deadlines.
- Budget APCs in INR and USD before you submit, not after acceptance.
- Re-verify every shortlisted ISSN in the month you actually submit.
Avoid
- Choosing a journal from a global top-25 that has never published your topic.
- Submitting the same manuscript to several journals at once.
- Trusting a 2026 screenshot of indexing status for a mid-2027 submission.
- Paying any party who promises to "place" your paper in a Scopus journal.
- Ignoring field depth — rank 40/1030 and rank 40/88 are different achievements.
A 2027 Preparation Calendar for Authors
Working backward from a target publication in 2027, here is a realistic schedule that respects genuine peer-review timelines at Scopus-tier journals:
- Oct–Dec 2026
Finish the study and the manuscript draft. Run a similarity check (JWSCAN provides an iThenticate by Turnitin report with an overall similarity index and source-by-source detail) and fix overlap now — similarity is a leading desk-reject cause.
- Jan–Feb 2027
Build the subject-area shortlist with the method above, verify every ISSN on scopus.com/sources, and format the manuscript to the first target's guidelines, including references and ethics statements.
- Mar 2027
Submit to the first target. Expect desk screening in days to weeks and, if the paper proceeds, reviews over the following months.
- Apr–Aug 2027
Respond to reviews or move down the shortlist after a rejection. Typically one or two revision rounds; keep every version and response letter archived.
- Sep–Dec 2027
Acceptance, proofing and online publication at an efficient journal — or carry-over into 2028 at slower venues. If a dated-2027 publication becomes critical and the Scopus route is still in review, a peer-reviewed network journal is the honest parallel option for a different paper.
For Editors: the Realistic Path to Scopus for a Journal in 2027
The second audience for this page is journal owners and editors asking how their own title gets onto a future Scopus list. The honest answer, per Elsevier's published content policy: a journal first meets minimum criteria — registered ISSN, peer-reviewed content, a publication ethics statement, English titles and abstracts, references predominantly in Roman script, a regular schedule and at least two years of publication history — and is then scored by the Content Selection and Advisory Board on editorial policy, content quality, citedness and standing, publishing regularity and online availability. Rejected titles wait out an embargo before reapplying. Nobody can shortcut this, and anyone selling a shortcut is defrauding you.
What editors should spend 2027 doing, if Scopus is the long-term aim: run every paper through documented peer review (JWJMS keeps a full record of each submission, review invitation, revision round and decision — the audit trail evaluators look for), register Crossref DOIs and deposit clean metadata (JWDOI provides a sponsored prefix so a young journal need not join Crossref directly), screen similarity before acceptance (JWSCAN), publish issues on schedule without gaps, and grow genuine citedness through open visibility (OpenRGATE's free repository and journal-discovery platform helps readers find the work). Our full walkthrough is the guide on how to index a journal in Scopus.
Our Journal Network for 2027 — Stated Honestly (Not Scopus-Indexed)
A clear statement before the cards, because this page exists to be trusted: our network journals — JMVRA, TIJER and JNRID — are not Scopus-indexed, and nothing on this page presents them as Scopus-indexed. They are low-cost, peer-reviewed, open-access venues. If your 2027 requirement is specifically a Scopus publication, use the subject-area method above on the official source list and plan for its timelines and costs.
The honest role of the network in a 2027 plan: publishing reviewed, DOI-backed work that should not wait a year — pilot studies, course and degree requirements, early papers that build a track record — while your stronger manuscript works through a Scopus-tier pipeline. Papers receive transparent peer review, Crossref DOIs under the group prefix 10.56975, CC BY 4.0 licensing and monthly publication.

2027 Mistakes to Avoid With Scopus Journal Lists
These are the errors we expect to cost authors the most next year, based on what reaches our editorial inbox:
- Trusting a cached "Scopus journals list 2027" PDF instead of the live source page — titles are discontinued mid-year, and papers submitted after discontinuation are not indexed.
- Judging a journal by CiteScore alone across fields, when percentile within the subject area is the comparable number.
- Confusing "Scopus preview visible" with active coverage — discontinued titles keep a source page with a closed coverage range.
- Believing "indexing under process" claims; Scopus confirms no applications publicly, so the claim is unverifiable by design.
- Leaving verification to the last week before a deadline, then accepting whichever journal replies fastest — the exact pressure predatory journals exploit.
Journey & Wisdom Support for a Scopus-Oriented 2027
Whether you are an author targeting the subject-area lists above or an editor building toward future evaluation, four services carry the load. JWJMS (jwjms.org) runs the journal management workflow — online submission portal, author dashboard, desk screening, reviewer invitations and reminders, revision rounds, decisions, issue building and publication scheduling — with a full record of each step. JWSCAN (jwscan.org) delivers pre-submission iThenticate (by Turnitin) similarity reports. JWDOI (jwdoi.org) registers Crossref DOIs and deposits article metadata through a sponsored prefix for journals, books, chapters and proceedings. OpenRGATE (openrgate.org) offers a free open-access repository and journal-discovery platform for visibility. For anything beyond these capabilities, contact the team to discuss your requirement ([email protected] / WhatsApp +91 91063 65667).

Frequently Asked Questions
Will there be a new Scopus journals list for 2027?
The Scopus source list is continuous, not annual: Elsevier adds CSAB-approved titles and discontinues failing ones throughout the year, and refreshes the downloadable list periodically. So 2027 will bring changes, but no single "2027 edition". Always confirm a title's live status at scopus.com/sources near your submission date.
How do I find the best Scopus journal for my subject?
Filter scopus.com/sources by your subject area and sort by CiteScore, then compare percentile, SJR and SNIP within that field only. Use the top title (our table lists 30 of them) as a benchmark, and shortlist realistic journals a tier or two below it whose recent articles resemble your work.
Which publisher has the most top Scopus journals?
In our 1,000-title Q1 compilation, Elsevier leads with 324 titles, followed by Springer Nature with 167 and John Wiley & Sons with 87. IEEE and Taylor & Francis have 46 each. Society publishers like ACS, APS and ACM hold fewer titles but often the number-one journal in their fields.
Which subject area has the most top-1000 Scopus journals?
Education, with 24 of the 1,000 titles in our compilation — ahead of General Medicine (20) and Electrical and Electronic Engineering (19). No subject exceeds 24, which shows the elite band is spread across hundreds of fields rather than dominated by one discipline.
Can I rely on 2026 CiteScore values for a 2027 submission?
As a planning guide, yes; as a final fact, no. CiteScore is recalculated annually and a tracker updates monthly, so values and quartiles shift. More importantly, titles can be discontinued. Build your shortlist on current data, then re-verify each ISSN on scopus.com/sources in the week you submit.
How long before a new journal can enter Scopus?
Elsevier requires at least two years of publication history before a title can be evaluated, and CSAB review itself takes months. A journal launched in 2026 could realistically be evaluated from 2028. Any young journal advertising current Scopus indexing is misrepresenting itself — check its ISSN on the source list.
What does the CSAB check when a journal applies?
Per Elsevier's content policy: editorial policy and peer review, content quality and readability, journal standing (including citedness and editor reputation), publishing regularity, and online availability with a credible website — on top of minimum criteria such as ISSN, ethics statement, English abstracts and a two-year history. Rejected titles face an embargo before reapplying.
Can an agent get my journal or paper into Scopus for a fee?
No. Scopus indexing decisions are made only by the CSAB, and Scopus charges nothing for evaluation. Paid "guaranteed indexing" or "paper placement" offers are fraud, and journals caught gaming citations are discontinued. The only path is meeting the published criteria over time.
Is JMVRA going to be in the Scopus list in 2027?
We make no such claim. JMVRA (ISSN 2984-8911, established June 2023) is presented as a peer-reviewed, open-access monthly journal — not as Scopus-indexed. Scopus evaluation has its own criteria and timelines, and no honest journal predicts the CSAB's decisions. Our focus is transparent review, Crossref DOIs and CC BY 4.0 open access.
Are TIJER and JNRID Scopus-indexed journals?
No, and this site does not present them as Scopus-indexed. TIJER (tijer.org) and JNRID (jnrid.org) are peer-reviewed network journals for affordable, reviewed publication. For a Scopus requirement, verify candidates on scopus.com/sources; for reviewed publication without Scopus, the network cards above state each journal's own fees and claims.
What should a 2027 publication budget include?
For open-access Scopus titles: the APC (commonly a few hundred to several thousand US dollars, set per journal — many subscription titles charge nothing), plus possible charges for language editing or figures. For network journals, the card on this page states the fee (JMVRA: ₹971 Indian / US$41 international, after acceptance). Budget currency conversion and institutional reimbursement timelines too.
Does JMVRA's impact factor make it equivalent to a Scopus journal?
No equivalence is claimed. JMVRA's 11.25 is a calculated metric based on citations from Google Scholar and Semantic Scholar. It is not an official Clarivate Journal Impact Factor (JCR), and it is not a Scopus CiteScore. Metrics from different systems are not comparable; what matters is verifying each claim at its own official source.
How will Indian institutions evaluate journals in 2027?
As of late 2026, UGC has discontinued the UGC-CARE list (public notice of 11 February 2025) and notified Suggested Parameters for choosing peer-reviewed journals. Many institutions apply those parameters alongside databases like Scopus. Policies are still settling, so confirm your institution's current rules closer to your 2027 submission. JMVRA is aligned with UGC's Suggested Parameters for Choosing Peer-Reviewed Journals.
Where can I browse a full Scopus journals list by subject without a subscription?
Scopus.com/sources is free to search and filter by subject area without a subscription. For quick exploration, our site's 1,000-title Q1 compilation at scopus-indexed-journals.php and scopus-indexed-journals-list.php shows CiteScore, SJR, SNIP, subject and publisher per title — then confirm your final choices on the official source page.
